If you're having a hard time with one of the later quests in the Prelude In Violet story patch arc, then I hope this text walkthrough helps you out! The Will of the Moon consists of 2 boss fights against Sadu and then Magnai.
The spells below are specifically for a White Mage. However, they are marked as buffs/damage/heals so you can interchange them with appropriate spells for other classes. If you don't have a healing spell, make sure you have potions and use food buffs!
WHM Spells:
Protect (Buff - Damage Reduction)
Divine Benison (Buff - Damage Reduction)
Presence of Mind (Buff - Speed Up Spell Casting)
Cleric Stance (Buff - Attack Damage Up)
Swiftcast (Buff - Instant Cast Next Spell)
Cure II (Heal)
Regen (Heal HOT)
Medica II (Heal HOT)
Tetragrammaton (Heal - Instant)
Benediction (Heal - Instant)
Aero II (Damage DOT)
Aero III (Damage DOT)
Stone IV (Damage)
Sadu Heavensflame
Sadu Heavensflame has 5 phases. You're main objective is to kill her but there are a lot of attacks to dodge, if you're a scrub like me you'll probably get hit by a few, so make sure you fully top up your health between phases while she's kneeling down. Save your bigger cooldowns for phase 5. If you are still really struggling, try getting some higher level gear and don't forget to affix Materia!
Phase 1
Phase 4
Now that you've beaten Sadu you have to do another boss fight with Magnai and if you fail that, you'll have to do Sadu all over again >_>
Magnai the Older
You get to play as Y'shtola! If you've already played a White Mage then her spell set will be pretty easy. As they are the familiar lot of :
Stone - Damage
Aero - DOT
Cure - Heal
Lucid Dreaming - Replenish MP

Sadu Heavensflame
Sadu Heavensflame has 5 phases. You're main objective is to kill her but there are a lot of attacks to dodge, if you're a scrub like me you'll probably get hit by a few, so make sure you fully top up your health between phases while she's kneeling down. Save your bigger cooldowns for phase 5. If you are still really struggling, try getting some higher level gear and don't forget to affix Materia!
Phase 1
- Cast your buffs
Protect, Presence of Mind, Cleric Stance. Use your DOTs, Aero II & III. Recast these when they run out, as they will help to burn down her health while you are dodging attacks. If you are getting hit a lot, use Divine Benison whenever it's available to reduce the incoming damage. Casting Regen on yourself will also top up your health while you are moving. As a WHM your main attacking spell is Stone IV, so you'll be casting that over and over until she dies. Sometimes you will have to give up on your spellcasting to avoid getting hit by the blue/orange patterns on the ground. Cure II will top up a decent amount of your health if you are low but I lazily use Tetragrammaton whenever it's up, as it has no cast time, then I can use that saved time to cast Stone IV.
- Use Cleric Stance to up your damage whenever available.
- Cast your Aero DOTs and continue to chip away at Sadu's HP with Stove IV.
- Ignore doing any damage to the ADDs in these phases (phase 2: floating staffs, phase 3: puppets on wheels), just find safe zones in the attack patterns. I found staying near the outer edges of the arena easiest.
- If your MP is getting low, use Lucid Dreaming or Assize to replenish.
Phase 4
- Ignore Sadu for the time being! Attack the stone statues first, as they will make Sadu invulnerable and if she finishes casting her spell while buffed by them, you will die!
- Use your Aero & Stone spells on these, they aren't that strong and should die pretty quickly.
- Once these first 2 statues are dead, you can go back to attacking Sadu, you don't have to attack the statues that will spawn on the outer edges of the ring, just dodge their attacks.
- Don't forget to use Cleric Stance and Divine Benison. However save Presence of Mind for later.
- DPS is really important in this phase, so it helps to save your second pop of Presence of Mind for this section. Combine it with Cleric Stance, then burn away her HP with Aero II/III and Stone IV.
- If you are a class with low DPS, consider food or potions that will add to your attack stats.
- If you can't kill her before the Meteor Impact bar is full, then you will fail. So now is the time to use all of your big cooldowns and keep those DOTs up.
- It's a good idea to use your HOTs as you will be dodging a lot. Fully heal yourself with Benediction if you're in big trouble. Swiftcast + Cure II / Cure III is also helpful for a quick top up. Use Medica II and Regen if you need that extra bit of health ticking back up while you're running.
- Because time is critical in this fight, you want to use as many instant heals as you've got, so you can get back to attacking. Use your damage absorbing buffs like Divine Benison as much as you can.
- The outer edge of the arena was again the easiest spot for me to to find safe zones while dodging all the crap they throw at you, just keep kiting around the edges.
- Focus on attacking Magnai and leave Daidukul to Hien, however you can throw the occasional Aero on Daidukul to speed things up.
- As you are a squishy WHM, you want to keep running away from Magnai to give yourself some time to cast Stone without getting hit. Just keep going around the circle to kite him.
- Recast Aero on him whenever it runs out.
- When he summons the Scale of the Father totems, attack one on the outer edge with Stone IV and a few hits should kill it, this will clear the orange mark on the floor and create yourself a safe zone. Then you can continue to attack Magnai while he's occupied.
- Don't forget to check on Hien's health and heal him up with Cure whenever he's around half to be on the safe side. His death will cause you to fail.
- When Magnai's health is getting very low, he will summon The Scales Of The Father totems again, a few text prompts will imply that they are unbreakable, so your previous tactics will not work. Hien will call out "Y'shtola - to me!" so follow him to the side of the map, there is a small safe circle behind him.
- Magnai will then capture you both, a round button will appear in the middle of the screen, hover your mouse over it and click as fast as you can to stop the attack. If you are successful, Y'shtola will kick his ass.
